The part where the goats hang out a lot is very hard almost like stone. But if you have the opportunity then you should. We converted our 8 x16 chicken coop into another shelter for the goats. You want a well drained soil like sand for your barn floor.

That barn burned so the new one has a gravel floor that gets thrown out with the bedding. So when we moved i put wooden floors into the goat pen figuring the urine would drain between the boards into the dirt below and the dirt wouldn t get compacted because the goats weren t standing on it. My last one was concrete cement also. I wish i had my cement floors back. We have mats to increase productivity keep animals warm and dry and improve animal comfort. It is so much easier to clean and helps keep them cool in the summer.
